So how do you write a Google Adwords PPC Advert? After hearing from Brittany Lynch (ex-Google) at a recent Neil Asher event this became clearer…
Are you spending alot of money on Google Adwords PPC campaigns with little to show for it? Have you lots of clicks and few conversions?
The likely reason for a high number of clicks and a low number of conversions is that your ad is not 100% relevant to your offering. You are almost tricking people into clicking. Let's face it ultimately clicks do not make you money, conversions do. If when a searcher clicks on your ad and clicks back out from your site quickly. This is a sign that your site did not meet their expectations. A bad user experience means that ultimately your campaign suffers and you end up paying more for your clicks.
So what makes a good ad?
Remember that ad is not about you, it is about the searcher.
You need to identify what the person who wants to buy your product or service is searching for. If you get this right you are onto a winner.
What does a well written ad look like?
-No Slang
-Capitalise the start of each word
-Makes sense
-Use a punctuation mark – question mark or exclamation mark helps your ad so stand out
What format does it take?
- The Headline should be a question
- The ad body should answer the question
All or some of your 3 keyword phrase should be in your headline and ad body. These all helps with relevancy and if your keywords are part of your domain too then that great too.
Use only one keywords phrase per ad group and run two ads within that campaign. this will help you track your 'buying' keywords and means you can eliminate the keywords that are only costing you money sooner rather than later.
Chose 3 keywords phrases and regionalise your adverts where possible. Yes you may want to target the whole of the US or the UK but break that down into States or even cities and see your Click Through Rate increase.
Remember the more relevant you are the better. Was this useful?
